SD-WAN design, phased store migration and managed service

The challenge

Every store connected to head office over MPLS circuits that were costly and slow to install. As billing, inventory and video moved to cloud services, traffic was routed back through the data centre, making apps sluggish at the till.

Opening a new store meant waiting weeks for a circuit.

Our approach

  1. Baseline performance

We measured application performance and costs at a sample of stores.

  2. Design the SD-WAN

Each store uses broadband plus a backup link, with traffic steered by application priority.

  3. Pilot then scale

A pilot group proved the design before stores migrated in batches overnight.

  4. Manage centrally

Policies, security and monitoring are controlled from one console.

The solution

Stores now connect directly to cloud applications over SD-WAN, with point-of-sale traffic always given priority. New stores are online in days with pre-configured devices.

The network team manages all 500 sites from a single dashboard.
