The challenge
Patient records, lab systems and appointment booking ran in a single on-site server room. A power or hardware failure could take clinical systems offline, and backups were tested rarely.
Any new setup had to protect sensitive patient data and meet healthcare privacy requirements, including HIPAA for international patients.
Our approach
Classify systems and data
We ranked every application by clinical importance and data sensitivity to decide how each should run.
Design for high availability
Critical systems were spread across multiple availability zones so a single failure does not stop care.
Build in compliance
Encryption, access logging and least-privilege roles were configured to healthcare security standards.
Prove recovery works
We ran disaster recovery drills before go-live and set a regular test schedule.
The solution
Clinical systems now run on resilient cloud infrastructure that stays available through hardware failures and maintenance. Patient data is encrypted, access is logged, and backups are tested on a schedule.
The IT team monitors everything from one dashboard and no longer has to manage server-room hardware.
Results
- Clinical systems protected against single points of failure
- Encryption and full audit trails for patient data
- Disaster recovery tested, not just documented
- IT time freed from hardware maintenance
Technology used
- AWS
- Multi-AZ architecture
- KMS encryption
- Terraform
- CloudWatch
